FREUDIAN SHEEP GALLERY
The Freudian Sheep opened at 104 St Helen's Street, Ipswich in December 2012 with owners Ian Moss and Eleanor May to promote creativity and works to help emerging and more established artists to achieve higher profiles and sales in the Anglia Region. The first major exhibition, ran from mid-December 2013 until the end of January 2014 was entitled ‘Counting Sheep’ as they considered artists that they work with to be a part of the creative flock. They offered their first exhibition free and, despite the time working creatively together, the proprietors still had to prove themselves as gallery owners. They exhibited the work of artists from not just East Anglia but also had art from Scotland and France. The gallery at St Helens Street closed in 2016 but in a new beginning Ian Moss, together with artist Martin Carter staged further exhibitions, including an exhibition in 2023 of 42 artists who once studied Fine Art at the University of Suffolk from 2009-2022. Exhibiting artists with the Freudian Sheep Gallery included Dan Rickwood, known professionally as Stanley Donwood (born 29 October 1968) and Suffolk artists who exhibited included Nicola Atchley, Sarah Bale, Laura Beardsell-Moore, Laurel Berry, Anna Boon, Michelle Bowden, Val Bright-Jones, Jenny Butcher, Patricia Colyer, Amy Drayson, Cat Fuller, Craig Hudson, Emma Jane Johnson, Maria Papadatou, Jane Stocks, Borin Van Loon, Colin Widdup and Anthony Wooding.
