COLYER, Patricia
As Patricia Jean Girling, she was born at Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1960, daughter of Edward George Girling and his wife Frances J. née Wadlow, who married in the Lothingland district of Suffolk in 1958. Patricia studied at Great Yarmouth College of Art and at the University of East Anglia and worked at the Lowestoft College of Art. She married in the Waveney district of Suffolk in 1981, David James Colyer and now paints under the name of Patricia Colyer. A contemporary landscape painter with her oil paintings often featuring the marshlands, estuaries, and seascapes of Suffolk and in 2013 became a full-time professional artist. With a love for the visual language of oils, Colyer’s seascapes, marsh, and estuaries of around her native harbour town of Lowestoft and her recent mixed media paintings of further afield such as giant scales and chromatic contrasts of Antwerp port installations, the Wash around King’s Lynn where singular built elements, lighthouses, military installations, and barns are fleetingly bathed in light. Patricia was a member of the Black Dog Arts Group with whom she exhibited also exhibited at the Freudian Sheep Gallery in Ipswich, Ferini Art Gallery, Pakefield, Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings Galleries, Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh and elsewhere. She donated an oil on card painting from Lowood Cottage, Broadview Road, Oulton Broad, at the Westhall Secret Postcard Auction in 2013 'Sand Dunes'.
