Val Bright-Jones

Valerie Jones originally came from Enfield, North London and attended Hornsey College of Art and after school, trained as a cartographer with the Ordnance Survey in Southampton. Val moved to Suffolk in 1969 and studied at St Osyth's College, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex 1974-1976, gaining her teaching qualification and taught art at 'A Level' in schools in Suffolk and Essex, most recently at Hedingham, Essex, before taking early retirement. Val had spent some time travelling in the Cook Islands and in Australia, where she painted murals and on her return to England, she purchased and managed an interior design business for seven years. Her passion for art continued, and in 2013 she gained a B.A. (hons) in Fine Art from University of Suffolk and an M.A. in Arts Practice in 2017. She married at Sudbury, Suffolk in 2000, Alec E. Jones and added her father's name and now works as Val Bright-Jones. Val is a painter, experimenting with mixed media and printmaking but drawing is an important starting point. Val has exhibited at Art Station; Art Fair East; Minories, Colchester; Sentinel Gallery, Wivenhoe,; Apex Gallery, Bury St Edmund's; Halesworth Gallery; Prettys Art, Ipswich; Ipswich School of Art; Waterfront Gallery, Ipswich; Caroline Wiseman Modern and Contemporary, Aldeburgh, Suffolk; Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London and elsewhere and has a solo exhibition at the Freudian Sheep Gallery at St Helens Street, Ipswich. She can also offer short courses or private tuition and is a full member of the Suffolk Open Studios from Firbank, Acton Lane, Sudbury, Suffolk.
