Helen Bartholomew

Helen Bartholomew was born in Indiana, USA in 1962, daughter of Benjamin Bartholomew and his wife Eileen née Tebbutt, Helen is a sister of Hilary Bartholomew. Since childhood, Helen has had a strong interest in colour, shape, line and form and enjoyed drawing and painting but her serious interest in painting began in 1996, when she started private tutelage with Ken Back, with whom she studied until his death, and who taught her the tradition of the British School of painting but encouraged students to follow their own unique path thus maintaining their integrity and individuality. Helen obtained a First B.A. (hons) at Suffolk College 1996-1999, also an M.A. from the University of East Anglia 2000-2002 also studying under Charlotte Stewart 2003-2019 and with the Art Academy London, Summer School, Portrait Painting Masterclass. Helen works in oil, graphite and occasionally collage and is continually changing and developing and therefore quite diverse, her work can range from figurative to abstract, from traditional to the bizarre. A member and exhibitor at the Suffolk Art Society and the Ipswich Art Society and has also exhibited at Graham & Oldham Gallery, Ipswich; Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery, Suffolk; the Society Of Women Artists, London; Ferini Art Gallery, Pakefield, Lowestoft; Halesworth Gallery Summer Exhibition; Pond Gallery, at Snape Maltings, Suffolk; Artisans East, Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh; Buckenham Galleries, Southwold and regularly at the New English Art Club, London and John Russell Gallery, Ipswich. More recently, Helen’s work has been accepted at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters annual exhibitions. A member of Suffolk Open Studios from Wingfield Green in Suffolk.
