NEW ENGLISH ART CLUB

1886 - ?

The New English Art Club was founded in 1886. Its origin was a wave of foreign influence in the person of several students who had worked in the Parisian schools. The New English Art Club came into existence as a process against the false concept of tradition, and it stands today as an equally false rejection of tradition. It holds drawing and observation of prime importance and has a drawing school teaching these basic principles. The Club is a member of the Federation of British Artists (FBA), based at the Mall Galleries. The annual exhibition is held November-December in the Mall Galleries, The Mall, London, not only for its members but also for aspiring artists. There are more than one hundred Suffolk Artists associated with the New English Art Club.
