NEW ENGLISH ART CLUB

1886 - ?

The New English Art Club was founded in 1886. Its origin was a wave of foreign influence in the person of several students who had worked in the Parisian schools. The New English Art Club came into existence as a process against the false concept of tradition, and it stands today as an equally false rejection of tradition. It holds drawing and observation of prime importance and has a drawing school teaching these basic principles. The Club is a member of the Federation of British Artists (FBA), based at the Mall Galleries. The annual exhibition is held November-December in the Mall Galleries, The Mall, London, not only for its members but also for aspiring artists.
