Charlotte Stewart

As Charlotte Lewellen Jones, she married at Sudbury, Suffolk in 1964, Gavin William Nicol Stewart (born 1942) and paints under the name of Charlotte Steward. Charlotte trained at the Byam Shaw School of Art 1959-1964, gaining a diploma in 1963 and awarded an Ernest Jackson scholarship 1963-1964. For the past forty years Charlotte has lived in Suffolk where she is a teacher and part time lecturer in Fine Art at Suffolk College, now the Suffolk University, also running Life Drawing classes. Her painting begins with structure, the thing observed and then the colour, the relationships reveal something that she needs to develop. Charlotte ran Holly Farm Studio, Stutton near Ipswich, followed by The Studio, Cherrytrees, Harkstead Road, Lower Holbrook, near Ipswich 1994-2004. A member of the Ipswich Art Society exhibiting from Holbrook in 2006 two oil on board pictures, 'Studio Interior' and 'Doorway'. She has also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists; Woodgates Gallery, East Bergholt; D’Arcy Gallery Ipswich; Littlegarth Gallery Dedham; Cabaret Voltaire, Colchester; Gaston Gallery, East Bergholt; Halesworth Gallery; Artist’s Gallery Ipswich; The Garage Space, Harkstead; Peppermint Shed, Sproughton; North House Gallery, Manningtree and in Wetzlar Germany and elsewhere.
