Charlotte Stewart

As Charlotte Lewellen Jones, she married at Sudbury, Suffolk in 1964, Gavin William Nicol Stewart and paints under the name of Charlotte Steward. Charlotte trained at the Byam Shaw School of Art 1959-1964, gaining a diploma in 1963 and awarded an Ernest Jackson scholarships 1963-1964 and has for the past forty years been living and painting in Suffolk where she is also a teacher and part time lecturer in Fine Art at Suffolk College (now Suffolk University) also running Life Drawing classes. Her painting begins with structure, the shape of the canvas, the thing observed, then the colour whose relationship reveals something that she needs to investigate and develop. From 1994 until 2004 she ran Holly Farm Studio, Stutton near Ipswich, followed by The Studio, Cherrytrees, Harkstead Road, Lower Holbrook, near Ipswich from where, as a member, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society in 2006, two oil on board pictures 'Studio Interior I' and 'Doorway'. She has also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists; Wetzlar Germany; Woodgates Gallery East Bergholt; D’Arcy Gallery Ipswich; Littlegarth Gallery Dedham; Cabaret Voltaire, Colchester; Gaston Gallery, East Bergholt and Halesworth Gallery; Artist’s Gallery Ipswich; The Garage Space, Harkstead; Peppermint Shed, Sproughton and North House Gallery, Manningtree, Essex.
