SHAVE, Terry
Terence John Shave was born at Old Newton, near Stowmarket, Suffolk on 8 June 1952, son of Fred Charles Shave (5 April 1908-1980), a coal hoist labourer, and his wife Ada Phyllis née Rulton (born 5 September 1913), who married at Old Newton in 1935 and in 1939 were living at Mill Hill, Old Newton, Gipping, Suffolk. Terry studied at Ipswich School of Art 1971-1972, Loughborough College of Art and Design 1972-1975 and the Slade School of Fine Art 1975-1977. A lecturer in art at North Staffordshire Polytechnic, Harlow College, Essex; Portsmouth Polytechnic; Manchester Polytechnic and Northeast London Polytechnic and Chelsea School of Art. A painter, draughtsman who has had mixed exhibitions at Loughborough University; Ipswich Art Gallery; Thumb Gallery; Aspex Gallery, Gunwharf Quays,
Portsmouth and Gainsborough's House Gallery, Sudbury. After a solo show at Framlingham Art Gallery in 1974 he exhibited at North Staffordshire Polytechnic Gallery and Morley College Gallery; Minories, Colchester; Usher Gallery, Lincoln and Ikon Gallery, Birmingham. Terry married at Ipswich in 1976, Helena M. Walker and they had three sons. A director of Dust Rising, an artist Community Interest Company based in Stoke-on-Trent, supporting emerging artists in the Midlands and Professor of Fine Art and Head of Visual Arts at Nottingham Trent University. They lived at 19 Park Avenue, Wolstanton, Staffordshire.
