The Framlingham Art Gallery, Well Close Square, Framlingham was owned by Mrs Anna Phillips was opened in June 1973 with Sir Harwood Harrison, M.P., performing the opening ceremony. The premises were originally a granary but was a cycle shop before considerable modernisation by Miss Wallace with the opening exhibition of the works of Susan and Guy Nicholls. Framlingham Art Gallery were advertising in the Bury Free Press in 1974, an exhibition of the works of Anne Paterson Wallace 'Recent Watercolour' in conjunction with the Suffolk Preservation Society. Later that year they had exhibitions of the works of the Fenland artist Anthony Day (1922–2023) and in December 1974 a mixed exhibition of eight East Anglian Artists. They were strongly associated with the Framlingham Art Society where their committee met in 1983 under the chairmanship of artist Peter Merrin who seems to have acquired the art gallery. The Framlingham Gallery was advertising in 1984 picture framing 'artists materials, original paintings' but by 1989 had been renamed The Art and Framing Shop, 5-9 Well Close Square, Framlingham and is now S J M Art. Other Suffolk artists who exhibited at the Framlingham Art Gallery include Terry Shave.
