HARROW SCHOOL OF ART

Harrow School of Art was begun by Marion Hewlett (1843-1915) who saw as an opportunity for social and educational activities for young people and she began art and domestic science classes for girls in Harrow in 1887 although boys were admitted. The School has seen many changes of the years and has been known variously as Harrow Technical School, Harrow Technical College and School of Art, Harrow College of Technology and Art and Harrow College of Higher Education. In the late 1990s the College merged with polytechnics including the Polytechnic of Central London, formerly known as Regent Street Polytechnic which in turn, two years later, became the University of Westminster. Alumni include sisters Anna and Doris Zinkeisen. Suffolk artists tutors includes Charles Bartlett, Michael Carlo, David Green, Christopher Penny, Clare Twomey and Joan Ward and others who studied at Harrow include Anna Badar, Alan Bennett, Simon Farr, Nicki Holt, Olwen Jones, Evan Robert Garrood Newbery, Prudence Seward, Monica Taylor.
