HOLT, Nicki

1952 - ?

Nicola J. L. Holt, was born in London in 1952. She studied Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art and at Harrow School of Art where she studied Illustration. For some years Nicki worked as a freelance illustrator and designer, originally for books and magazines before turning to packaging design and illustration. Her main focus has been etching and has exhibited her work in London including at Centaur Gallery, Highgate; Camden Arts Centre; Chalk Farm Gallery; Chalk Farm Gallery and Perrins Art Gallery, Hampstead but in 1989 moved to Suffolk and rediscovering printmaking and now shows mainly in Suffolk including at Denis Taplin Gallery, Woodbridge; Aldeburgh Gallery; Yoxford Arts Festival; Asylum Studios Rendlesham; Wingfield Barns; New Cut Halesworth; Snape Maltings Gallery; Peter Pears Gallery Aldeburgh; Nunnsyard Gallery Norwich; The Granary Stow on the Wold and elsewhere. Her subject matter varies but is inspired by nature, with the inherent mystery and dark side which she tries to convey in her prints and printmaking. With etchings she uses intense precise drawing in a representational way, whereas collagraphs are a good foil for the elaborate and lengthy etching process which tend to produce more spontaneous, abstract, colourful prints. Nicki produces small runs of etchings, usually about twelve prints also producing monoprints, relief prints, drypoint, and collage and occasionally combine some of these processes to create the desired result. A Member of the Ipswich Art Club and exhibited in 2006, a monoprint 'Aquarium' and an etching 'Cabbage White Butterfly'. ttp://www.nickiholtprints.co.uk
