Bridget Heriz

Bridget Audrey Jane Heriz-Smith, was born at Hamburg, Germany on 13 December 1949, daughter of artists, Patrick Heriz-Smith [q.v.] and Audrey née Pilkington [Heriz-Smith q.v.]. Bridget was educated at Thomas Mills School in Framlingham, Suffolk and studied at Goldsmiths College, University of London, Foundation in Art 1973 and at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design 1974-1977, gaining a B.A. (hons.) degree. After her studies, Bridget returned to Suffolk working with her parents at Clock House Fine Art Studios at Bruisyard, Framlingham, followed by a period supporting her practice through part-time teaching at Ipswich School of Art. In 2002, she moved from 1 Allums Yard, Low Road, Badingham, Suffolk to Albany House, 53 Lichfield Road, Southtown, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk and a founder member of Bearing 090, exhibiting internationally, and a member of ARC Artists Group, Great Yarmouth. She has developed a highly individual approach to figurative sculpture with her figures constructed of wire and card, combining techniques used in her early experience of working in clay, to create work that has the immediacy of fluid drawing. Bridget has exhibited widely in both solo and group shows including at Chappel Galleries, Essex; VI International Exhibition, St Petersburg; Romance, Kowalsky Gallery, London; The Cut, Halesworth; Greyfriars Art Centre, Kings Lynn; Mandells Gallery, Norwich and Wymondham Arts Centre. The illustrator of 'Kids' Pranks and Capers' by Frank Reed and the author of 'Jane Truzzi-Franconi (1955-93): Retrospective'. She married at Halesworth, Suffolk in 1979, Daniel J. Allen and had two children, Edward and Ambrosine, who is the artist Ambrosine Allen. www.bridgetheriz.co.uk
