INSPIRED BY BECKER ART SOCIETY

2015 - ?

The Inspired by Becker Art Society was formed in 2015, two years after its first exhibition was held in 2013. The principal aim of the Society has been to raise awareness of the work of Harry Becker within the art world and amongst the public, and to run events such as the annual exhibition which celebrate his contribution to painting and printmaking in the early years of the 20th century and highlight contemporary responses to his painting style. Suffolk artist members included Jillifar Amor, Anna Badar, Malcolm Cudmore, Susan Debnam, Mary Gundry, James Power, Simon Turner and Loraine Wilson.

There is a new movement 'Inspired by Benton End' a collaboration with other Suffolk based contemporary artists, who gather to create work inspired by the history of Benton End, Hadleigh the former home of artists Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett-Haines, visiting the site, drawing, painting, and exchanging ideas, all while celebrating the legacy. This artistic movement held a series of exhibitions celebrating the legacy of Benton End and the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing founded by Morris and Lett-Haines and the movement involves artists who draw inspiration from the environment, the artists who lived and worked there, and the unique atmosphere of Benton End. Exhibitions are held in Hadleigh, often coinciding with the reopening of Benton End's gardens to the public in 2025 at Hadleigh Old School. Suffolk artists who exhibited with Inspired by Benton End include Lynne Campen.
