AMOR, Jillifar

As Valerie Jillifar A. Wilkinson, she was born at 21 Manor Road, Barnet, Hertfordshire in 1939, daughter of Alfred Lashbrook Wilkinson (14 October 1899-25 March 1994), master artist in stained glass, and his wife Blodwen née Davies (19 October 1905-1977), who married at Barnet in 1935. Jillifar studied embroidery, dress and millinery design at Barrett Street Technical College, now The London School of Fashion, and began a career in merchandising and display for several clients in London, before opening her own boutique in Surrey and running this enterprise for three decades. She married at Watford, Hertfordshire in 1965, Dennis C. Amor (born 1932) and works under the name of Jillifar Amor. Jillifar and her husband moved to Suffolk in 2000 and set up a studio to experiment with textures, textile embroidery, oils, pastel, acrylic, and water colour, creating innovative work depicting the Suffolk coast and skies. As an admirer of Harry Becker, she is a member of the Inspired by Becker Art Society, of the Framlingham Art Society and of Suffolk Open Studios from Barn Studio, Capons Green Farm, Dennington, near Woodbridge, Suffolk.
