SMITHS ROW ART GALLERY

1972 - 2018

Smiths Row Art Gallery, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk started in 1972 at the Market Cross on the Cornhill and was the place to see great new work and fresh ideas by artists and designers from Britain and abroad, to share ideas, extend your art collection and to take part in a wide range of workshops and social events. In November 2015 it closed the gallery at the Market Cross and since April 2016 has been based at the Guildhall as the Guildhall Gallery. Latterly operating without a dedicated gallery space, they had hoped to move to the station master's house at Bury Train Station but in 2018 Smiths Row trustees said it was closing due to an ongoing funding battle.
