Zoë Rubens

Zoë Augusta Rubens was born at Ipswich in 1969, daughter of Maurice Rubens and his wife Ursula Ströh-Rubens, who married at Chelsea in 1961, she is the younger sister of Sula Rubens. Zoë gained a first-class honours degree in sculpture from the Manchester Metropolitan University 1988-1991 and was awarded a scholarship from the Worshipful Company of Founders to study ceramic shell bronze casting at the London Institute 1992. She obtained a Prince's Youth Business Trust grant in 1994 and Friends of Suffolk Craft Society bursary to research in Barcelona 1995 and had further experience in Europe. Zoë lectured part-time at Suffolk College, Ipswich 1994-1996 and at Anglia Polytechnic University Cambridge 1998-1999. A past member of the Suffolk Group of Artists, she works mainly with metal, ceramic and cement and her exhibitions include at the Society of Scottish Artists; Royal Scottish Academy, Manchester City Art Gallery; Kettle's Yard, Cambridge; Minories, Colchester; Royal West of England Academy; Babylon Gallery, Ely; Bircham Gallery, Holt, Norfolk; Gallery 2, Ipswich Town Hall Gallery; Key Arts Group, Ipswich; Curwen Gallery, Fitzrovia, London, a solo exhibition at the Curwen and New Academy Gallery and many others and abroad, including Scandinavia, Portugal and Japan.
