QUANTRILL, David James
David James Quantrill was born at 4 Old Market Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk on 11 July 1938, son of James Willam Quantrill (2 November 1898-1967), a dock labourer, and his wife Elsie Elizabeth née Woolterton (27 November 1901-1949), who married at Lowestoft in 1922. David studied at Lowestoft College of Art. A painter in all media, notably acrylic and is a member and exhibitor at the Beccles Society of Artists. His painting has now entered a new phase, moving on from his more traditional figurative style to abstract expressionism. He has had solo exhibitions at Frederick Gallery; King of Hearts at 11-15 Fye Bridge Street, Norwich; Ferini Art Gallery, Pakefield, Lowestoft; Great Yarmouth Galleries and John Russell Gallery, Ipswich with regular shows at the Pastel Society; New English Art Club; Royal Society of Marine Artists; Eastern Open Art Exhibition, and 'Drawings for All' at Gainsborough's House Gallery, Sudbury; Mall Galleries as well as many local galleries. He married in 1964, Angela J. Rouse and they live at 18 Carlton Square, Carlton Colville, Lowestoft. His work is held by Norwich Castle Museums and Art Galleries, James Paget Healthcare Trust and private collections in UK., Europe and in the USA.
