Jennifer Mackay Windle, as Jennifer Colley Mackay was born on 19 May 1959. She studied Fine Art at The Art Institute of Boston, Massachusetts 1985-1987 graduating with a Diploma in Fine Art in 1987 and whilst in Boston she had the opportunity to paint in Normandy, France with Jason Berger (1924–2010) and has spent many years painting in New England and in the UK, specialising in still life, figurative and landscape work. A strong influence in her artistic development was her great, great Aunt Laura Coombs Hills (1859-1952) who was highly skilled in pastels and a gifted colourist, and it was her influence that prompted Jenny to try pastel painting. Together with her husband, Vaughan Windle, they spent many years drawing & painting in various locations, learning French, Spanish and Italian languages and exhibiting artwork. In 1999 she relocated from Massachusetts to Suffolk where she was a professional artist and tutor, including with the Mettingham Art Group. She exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London with the Pastel Society, the Society of Women Artists and locally at Aldeburgh Gallery; Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh; Old Print Works Gallery, Saxmundham; Court Gallery, Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge; Snape Maltings Galleries and was the author of 'Draw with Pastels' a book about pastels for children. Jennifer 'Jenny' Mackay Windle was killed in a car crash in Leiston on 11 April 2021 and was buried at Edgewood Cemetery, Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA.
