SOCIETY OF WILDLIFE ARTISTS

1964 - ?

The Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA) was founded in 1964 and its inaugural exhibition was held at the Mall Galleries in London and featured 150 exhibits by its thirty-five original members including founder members Eric Ennion (1900–1981) and Robert Gillmor (6 July 1936–8 May 2022). The aim of the Society is to foster contact and co-ordination of activities among the UK's many wildlife artists. The annual exhibition, which is held in mid-summer (June or July) at the Mall Galleries, is open to non-members. In addition to artist members, the Society also welcomes lay members who, although not necessarily artists themselves, share its interests and provide a supporting role. The SWLA is a member of the Federation of British Artists. Suffolk artist member and exhibitors at the Society of Wildlife Artists include Robert Coppillie; Carol Cresswell; Brin Edwards; Eric Arnold Roberts Ennion; Andrew Haslen; Martin Kidner; Stephen Kirin; Mary Elliott Lacey; Peter Partington; Bruce Pearson; Steven Povall; Eileen Alice Soper and John Norris Wood.
