Brinley John Edwards was born in London in 1957 and spent an early part of his childhood in Singapore where he was captivated by the colourful tropical species in his back garden and has always been fascinated by the natural world and paints and draws wildlife. On returning to the UK, he studied biology at University of Exeter, gaining a BSc (hons.), and ecology at the University of Durham, graduating with a master's degree with the view of a career in scientific research but had more interest in the natural world. Brin spent fifteen years in Bristol as a freelance illustrator, building up an impressive folio of work for a variety of UK and European book and magazine publishers which include BBC Wildlife magazine, Harper Collins, and The National Trust. He has also produced illustrations for major lottery funded projects such as The National Marine Aquarium at Plymouth. Brin moved to Suffolk in 2002 and in recent years has developed an expressive way of depicting the natural world in his oil paintings with a looser and atmospheric approach. The inspiration his paintings comes from close to home where, in 2008, he completed a purpose-built straw bale studio and classroom at Maple Cottage, 59 Barrack Road, Assington, Sudbury in Suffolk from where he is a member of Suffolk Open Studios. He works in oils concentrating mostly on birds as wildlife subjects. Bird Illustrator of the Year in 1999 and a Council Member of the Society of Wildlife Artists and regularly exhibits at their Mall Gallery show in London, he also exhibits at The Pinkfoot Gallery, Cley-next-the Sea, Norfolk; Wildlife Art Gallery, Lavenham, Suffolk; Cambridge Contemporary Art and The Sea Pictures Gallery, Clare, Suffolk.
