Chris McElhatton

Christopher David McElhatton was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1951, son of Dr Peter McElhatton (4 May 1923-15 November 1980), M.D., and his wife Patricia Elizabeth Mary née Boyd (1926-27 March 2011), who married at Durham in 1950. Christopher studied at Leeds Polytechnic 1973-1976, graduating B.A. (hons) in Three-Dimensional Design; at the University of London 1993-1994, post graduate certificate of Education Art and Design and at Goldsmiths College, London. Chris has worked on commercial exhibition design projects including museum design projects which included work for the Freud Museum, interactive exhibits for the Education Department of the Natural History Museum and animatronics for the Education Department of London Zoo. Artist in residence for Suffolk Education and a museum educator at the Wolsey Gallery, Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich and is now an artist working in East Anglia. His painting is inspired by the landscape of East Anglia in the changing seasons and has exhibited his paintings, prints and installations at the Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings; Aldeburgh Gallery; Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh, all in Suffolk and at 54 The Gallery, Shepherd Market, London W1J 7QX and is a member of Suffolk Open Studios. He married at Camden, London in 1991, Patricia J. Lawton and his studio is located at The Coach House, Aldringham, near Thorpeness in Suffolk.
