Lillias August

As Lillias Anne Hartley, she was born at Gloucester City on 5 May 1955, her mother's maiden name was Lenagan. Lillias studied at Goldsmiths College, London 1973-1977 gaining a B.A. (hons.) in Fine Art in 1976, followed by a postgraduate course on the history of art and design at Birmingham Polytechnic 1977-1978. Lillias married at Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1980, Adrian Charles August (born 1952) and had two sons and works under the name of Lillias August. Lillias has exhibited widely and shown work regularly at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in London, where she was elected a member in 2006 and has received several awards for both her landscape and architectural work. She was 'project artist' for St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmund's 2000-2005, as part of the Suffolk Cathedral Millennium Project which included the building of the new tower. A publication of her project work coincided with the final exhibition and 'Cross', a series of paintings that grew out of the project, touring during 2005-2006 to Ely, Peterborough, and Lincoln Cathedrals and subsequently to Southwell Minster. Living at West Barn, Golden Lane, Lawshall, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk and a member and exhibitor at the Bury St Edmund's Art Society and at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle and an Honorary member of the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists and of Institute of East Anglian Artists. Lillias has also exhibited at the Royal Academy; the Federation of British Artists; London Views RAC Club, Pall Mall, London; Rye Art Gallery; the National Theatre, Southbank, London; Assembly House Norwich and in Suffolk at Contemporary East Anglian Artists, Gainsborough's House Museum and Gallery, Sudbury; Edmund Gallery, Angel Hill, Bury St Edmund's; Hunter Gallery, Bury St Edmund's; South Suffolk Show and in Ipswich and many other venues.
