ALDRIDGE, Christian

1976 - ?

Christian Mark Aldridge was born in Birmingham in 1976. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art 1996-2000, the University of East London 2007-2008 for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and took his Master's degree at Norwich University of the Arts 2009-2011. His practice is shaped by an ongoing dialogue with material, each work presenting its own challenges and evolving through a process of individuation toward resolution. Interested in the material properties of paint and the qualities of surface, he frequently experiments with varied materials to create his work. Distemper (glue and pigment) is often used as a ground for the linen canvasses which provides a porous surface on which he builds layers of oil paint. He also works with gesso grounds, which he scrapes and scores to develop the imagery and abstract forms that give shape to his visual thinking. Christian Aldridge works from a studio at Darsham, Saxmundham in Suffolk whilst also lectures at East Coast College, Lowestoft. He has exhibited with Walberswick Open Studios; Rowe & Williams Gallery, Yoxford and elsewhere.
