Deborah Alexander, was born at Perth, Australia in 1959, daughter of a Dutch father and an English mother. Moving from one side of Australia to the other and then multiple times to New Zealand, she spent time in Remuera Primary School at Auckland, New Zealand in the late 1960s. Deborah moved from New Zealand to England in 1989, with her late husband and children, and although engaged in painting for most of her life, it wasn’t until she was in her 40s, that she completed a Fine Arts Degree with Honours at Suffolk College, Ipswich in 2004 and a Masters in Fine Art at Norwich School of Art and Design in 2007. Deborah paints in oil, and her paintings are a metaphorical unravelling of the past, often patterned they provide a way of viewing, engaging with paint as a material, applying each layer to expose or cover itself.
