Silke Schelenz

Silke Schelenz was born in Berlin and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Free University of Berlin, Germany in 1992 where she also studied for her MD in the department of Paediatric Pulmonology and Immunology. In 1997 she obtained her PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine studying the subject of host response to Aspergillosis and Cyptococcosis. Since then she specialised in the field of Medical Microbiology and a consultant microbiologist at Kings College Hospital in London the laboratory director and clinical lead for Infection Sciences. She is now a London and Suffolk based artist. Most of her artwork is based on photographs that she takes during her travels depicting urban spaces, atmospheric landscapes, silhouettes of people or objects. Dr Silke works mostly in her Suffolk Studio or the Putney School of Arts with some works also created at Artichokes print-studio in London and at Sudbourne Park Printmakers 2008-2014. The majority of her printmaking skills are self taught being refined over the years in workshops with Jason Hickling, Norman Ackroyd and visits to the international print-studios Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice and Il Bisonte in Florence. Her work has been exhibited at international events such as the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions; Royal Society of Printmakers in London; The Mall Galleries, London; Print Biennale in Bulgaria and elsewhere. Her works are also in a number of private collections.
