ALDEBURGH ART GROUP
The Aldeburgh Art Group was an informal group of artists who met weekly to concentrate on painting, drawing, and developing their skills. Working in any medium but with no teachers but had meetings at the Baptist Chapel in Aldeburgh High Street every Tuesday with annual exhibitions in Aldeburgh every June. This group was disbanded owing to the Covid restrictions and the death of the organiser Michael Philpot. Its last mixed exhibition was held in the Summer 2019. Suffolk artist members included Pat Jourdan, Michael George Philpot, Andrew Pitt and Sheila Volpe.
The Aldeburgh Artists' Collective may have succeeded this Group. The members are a group of fine art painter’s, poet’s, story teller’s, potter’s, a herbologist, a fine art book maker, printmaker’s, sculptor’s, an illustrator and a small print run publisher of poetry and art books. They held their first exhibition at the Courtyard Gallery, Aldeburgh in October 2021 whose Suffolk artist exhibitors included Gillian Chaplin, Lamorna Alice Good and Susie Joyce.
