VOLPE, Sheila
Sheila C. Volpe was born at Luton, Bedfordshire in 1961, her mother's maiden name was Potts. Sheila took a degree in Graphic Design at Luton School Art and had an extensive career in publishing as an Art Editor and Designer based in London. She married at Hendon, Middlesex in 1982, David Graham Blaxill, but continues to paint as Sheila Volpe. They moved to Suffolk, converting an old shed into a studio where she had the space and time to develop her art. Sheila draws mostly people, faces, and nudes from vintage photographic reference and life models. She has also been experimenting with abstracts, using soft pastels and mixed media, the pastels allow her to work at speed and give energy and movement to her work. A member of Waveney Springs Art Collective and is a council member of the Norwich Art Circle, she has her studio at Mandalay, Harleston Road, Weybread, Suffolk where she lives with her husband David. She has exhibited at Hampstead, London; Corn Hall, Diss, Norfolk and in Suffolk at Fisher Theatre Gallery, Bungay; Quay Gallery at Snape Maltings; Aldeburgh Art Group, Aldeburgh; St Mary's Church Debenham and with the Black Dog Arts Group.
