DOWSON, Claire
Claire-Louise Dowson was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1945, daughter of Frederick Charles William Dowson (3 March 1905-12 January 1987) and his wife Sylvia Louise née Swetman (18 September 1910-27 March 1990), who married at Croydon in 1940. After a teaching career in various inland parts of the country and bringing up her two children, she retired to the town of her birth. A painter working in oils, watercolour, and mixed media and now a professional artist, working in the studio in her garden. Her painting is an immediate, emotional response from close observation of a natural subject, using pencil or watercolour to a semi-abstract oil which dictates its own mood or atmosphere. She has exhibited her work in galleries all over East Anglia, including Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham; Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh; Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings; Ferini Art Gallery, Pakefield, Lowestoft; Buckenham Galleries, Southwold; Upstairs Gallery, Beccles and was a former member of Suffolk Open Studios from Dove Cottage, 8 Willow Road, Pakefield, Lowestoft. She has also exhibited regularly at the Mall Galleries, London.
