POLLOCK, Jane
As Jane Veronica Willmott, she was born at 17 Biggin Way, Croydon in 1937, daughter of Sir Maurice Gordon Willmott (25 February 1894-14 October 1977), Chief Chancery Master in the High Court of Justice, and his wife Joan Barbara née Newby (18 September 1913-26 November 1992), who married at Shirley Church, Croydon on 4 April 1934. Jane married at Wincanton, Somerset in 1971, Charles B. Pollock and paints under the name of Jane Pollock. Her career in agriculture and human nutrition has taken her to Uganda, Fiji and the South Pacific and, following her marriage, she has lived in Singapore, Turkey, and Botswana. Apart from four months at the Nayang Academy of Fine Art in Singapore, her art training has been informal, but she has had the benefit of tutors such as Ken Cuthbert and Ken Back, as well as attending evening classes and workshops. With many years of experience of painting, not only in this country but also overseas and, since retiring to Suffolk, she and her husband have travelled around the world including to South America and India. Her images are colourful, she is a great admirer of Gaugin's colour and depiction of the South Pacific, which are often based on rural life, cattle, horses, and other animals. She also paints still life and more orthodox landscapes in several different media including, oil, acrylic, pastel, and watercolour and has concentrated on batik painting. A member of the Southwold Art Circle and the Beccles Society of Artists, she was also a member of the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1991-1996 from Beccles, Suffolk and of the Ipswich Art Society where she exhibited from Almond Tree Cottage, The Street, Easton, Woodbridge in 1997, 'Hester', 'Still Life with Ginger Jar' and 'Pigs on the Alert' and in 2006, an oil 'Indian Mat'. She also exhibits with the Five Blyth Painters and has been shown at the 'Artists and Illustrators' exhibition at Olympia as a finalist in the over-65s competition. She donated to the Westhall Secret Postcard Auction in 2013 a watercolour 'My Master's Boots'.
