BYFORD, Moyra
Moyra J. Byford studied at Lowestoft School of Arts and Crafts and St Martin's School of Art, London. Moyra was a tutor at St Albans School of Art, and Watford College and was Senior Lecturer at Alsager College of Education, Cheshire. She opened an art gallery in Chester and retrained in art restoration, restoring for museums, art galleries and private customers and developed a programme of private courses in restoration that ran for some fifteen years drawing students from all over the world. She has published four books and fifteen video tapes on restoration and picture framing. All through her working career, Moyra has continued painting in oil and watercolour and after retiring to Southwold, Suffolk in 1999, she concentrated solely on painting. Her subjects include East Coast landscapes and seascapes, natural forms direct from life, in watercolour, acrylic and gouache and her prints include animal and birds, plant forms and genre. Moyra developed interest in printmaking at Gainsborough's House Print Workshop (Wood and Lino cut); Sudbourne Park Printmakers (etching) and Curwen Press (lithography) and has exhibited her works in solo and joint exhibitions every year from 2002, including at Snape Maltings Galleries; Buckenham Galleries, Southwold and Gainsborough's House Museum and Gallery, Sudbury. A member of the Southwold Art Circle since 1999 and has her studio at 5 Aldergrove Close, Halesworth, Suffolk.
