PATON, Anne

Anne Elizabeth Paton was born at Cuckfield, Sussex on 29 October 1944, daughter of James Christopher MacDonald Paton (1 August 1915-5 January 1989) and his wife Barbara J. née Blaikie, who married at Cuckfield the previous year. Anne was educated at St Agnes & St Michaels' School, an Anglican convent at East Grinstead, Sussex and for many years worked as a graphic designer in publishing. She studied at the Chelsea School of Art 1975-1978, and painting with Eric Shanes (1944-2017) and printmaking with Peter Baer (1924-1996), gaining a Dip.Ad. in Fine Art and now works as a professional artist. Anne works expressively using mixed media, responding to the landscapes and seascapes of East Anglia from her studio in the garden of her Suffolk cottage at Manor Close, Main Street, Walberswick, where she has lived since 1991. A Member of the Ipswich Art Society and exhibited from Walberswick in 2006, two oils 'Clare' and 'Emma', she is also a member of Artworks East and Southwold Art Circle. Her work has been included in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions also showing at the Mall Galleries; the New English Art Club; the Camden Arts Centre and at the Royal Exchange, with local exhibitions at Snape Maltings; Halesworth Gallery; The Garden Gallery, Southwold; Buckenham House Gallery; Bircham Gallery, Holt and Chappel Galleries, Essex and has summer exhibitions at her riverside studio. Her work is included in many private and public collections both in the U.K. and abroad. Anne has been featured as the 'Artist of the Month' at the Snape Maltings Galleries on several occasions and in 2007 had her first solo exhibition at the Chappel Galleries. Anne donated a work to the 'Westhall Secret Postcard Auction' in 2012 'Three Ships' and in 2013 'Seated Nude' and is a member of Suffolk Open Studios from 9b Chapel Road, Saxmundham, Suffolk.
