Clare Curtis

Clare A. Curtis was born at Thaxted, Essex in 1968, where she spent the first three years of her childhood and in 1971, she moved to Felixstowe, Suffolk. Clare trained at Suffolk College, Ipswich, now the University of Suffolk, 1986-1988, then studying illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, graduating in 1991. On leaving Scotland, she moved to London as a freelance illustrator, at the same time working as an evening class teacher. During this time, she worked in cut paper collage and applied her illustration work in many areas within the publishing and design industries, including magazines, promotional and corporate literature, adult and children’s books, greetings cards and an animated title sequences for BBC television. In 1997, she returned to Suffolk and resumed printmaking, with relief printmaking now her focus. Clare currently lives at 22 Penfold Road, Felixstowe, a house that originally belonged to her grandfather which is where she works and prints. She exhibited at Romany Gallery, Suffolk; Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh; Ipswich Town Hall Gallery, Ipswich; Gallery Nine, Bath; Serena Hall Gallery, Southwold; Snape Maltings Galleries; the Assembly House Norwich; Cambridge Contemporary Art, Cambridge; Art at the Ferry and elsewhere. Her prints are reproduced on Art Angel Cards, and in recent years Clare has worked for publishers Faber & Faber and Random House and her linocuts have been used on packaging for Mornflake Cereal, the National Trust, and Adnams Brewery. Since 2012 she has worked with The Curwen Studio producing hand drawn lithographs. Her prints are available at Craftco, Southwold, Suffolk; Mill Tye Gallery, Great Cornard, Sudbury; Bircham Gallery, Holt, Norfolk; Church Street Gallery, Saffron Walden, Essex and elsewhere.
