Church Street Gallery at 77a High Street, Saffron Walden is an independent art gallery situated opposite the church halfway down Church Street in the heart of Saffron Walden, Essex. Open in 1979 it operated as a prominent space for local fine art and bespoke framing under its original founder Helen Louise Bargery later Baynham (November 1969-) who ran the Saffron Walden location before relocating to the Lake District around 2013, where she went on to open a similar art space called The Mere Gallery on Lake Road in Bowness-on-Windermere. Artist Debbie Scott, daughter of professional artist Peter Rowland, was the owner in 2015 and in 2018 local artist Daisy Courtauld went to work as gallery assistant at Church Street Gallery and since 2023 the gallery has been owned and run by Daisy Courtauld. The gallery represented a diverse range of contemporary painters, printmakers and ceramicists bringing a collection of affordable art by both established and emerging artists. Throughout the year they show a varied programme of exhibitions and events displaying the work of artists from the local area and beyond including a collection of paintings and hand pulled prints. Also, you can get advice on framing, with Daisy there most days and is always happy to discuss your needs. Suffolk artists who have exhibited at Church Street Gallery, Saffron Walden include Marcella Cooper, Clare Curtis, Gilia Florentin-Lee, Margaret Glass and Fiona Scheibl.
