Martin Battye

Martin Howard Battye was born at Woodbridge, Suffolk on 30 March 1952, son of Ian Howard Battye (14 January 1918-19 July 2001) and his wife Christina Mary Sutherland née Symon (-3 July 2017) who married at Woodbridge in 1946 and he spent his childhood at Woodbridge before moving to South Norfolk. Martin studied at Sunderland School of Art and held various positions before setting up his own venture 'Kirton Healthcare Group', making medical equipment for the disabled and the elderly. He married in 1983, Hilary Barnett (June 1954-) and they had four daughters. Painter, teacher, and businessman and after a career in business and healthcare, Martin returned to painting full time and has had exhibitions at Northern Young Contemporaries at Newcastle, Taplin Gallery at Woodbridge, Gallery East, Woodbridge, Suffolk and at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and had several solo exhibitions including at Chappel Galleries, Essex, Graham & Oldham Gallery, Ipswich and Warehouse Arts Collective, Lowestoft. He is fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and a member of the Norwich Twenty Group and in 2022, he was still living at Old Forge, The Street, Hempnall, Norwich.
