WAVENEY WATERCOLOURISTS
The Waveney Watercolourists started as a group of friends who painted in waterbased media and were serious about their art, and met monthly to inspire and motivate each other, talk about art events and exhibitions they had attended and share their experience and knowledge. The group were painting together for nearly ten years and exhibiting as a group for seven years. They all lived near the Suffolk coast and many gleaned inspiration from the local sea, heathland, marshes, reedbeds and rivers. Others used flowers, seedheads, rocks and various still life for inspiration. The group worked in a variety of water based media including traditional watercolours creating beautiful translucent images, or watercolour, acrylics, inks and collage to produce textured mixed media pieces. The eight members of 'Waveney Watercolourists included Jean Bichara; Moyra Byford; Gill Carter; Jackie Knights; Francesca Townsend; Lenny Townsend and David Weight all experienced local artists with a diverse mix of styles and techniques. They held their exhibitions at the Cygnet Room, Swan Hotel, Southwold. This group has disbanded.
