SUCH, Laura
Laura Such is an award-winning emerging artist based in Southwold, Suffolk. Laura studied at Norwich University College of the Arts 2009-2012 graduating with a B.A. (hons) degree in Fine Art. Working with both contemporary and traditional materials her work is positioned firmly within the canon of sculpture, while her use of found objects and humour traces a line back to the extraordinary world of Dada. Some of her works can be considered as monuments to failure and the absurd, while some pieces are celebrations of femininity, of life and of death. In 2021 she was a Finalist for the National Sculpture Prize, judged by esteemed artists including Gavin Turk (1967-) and Polly Morgan (1980-). In January 2022 Laura was artist in residence at the Art Station, Saxmundham where she was mentored by Clare Palmier, director of the Art Station, and Suffolk sculptor Laurence Edwards and later that year was one of four artists in residence at Nectar in rural Catalunya, Spain which culminated in an exhibition at Espronceda, Barcelona as part of the Art Nou festival in the city. From her studio in Halesworth, Suffolk, Laura has exhibited in Cambridge, Norwich, London, Paris and Barcelona and locally at Firstsite, Colchester; The Cut Arts Centre Halesworth; Snape Maltings Galleries; Yare Gallery, Great Yarmouth; Wingfield Barns and elsewhere.
