Timothy Sawyer Shepard

Timothy Sawyer Shepard is an expatriate American artist who was born on 30 March 1963 and grew up between the USA and the UK. He was educated at Eton College and is a graduate of Georgetown University, Washington DC where he double majored in Fine Art (sculpture) and Theology after transferring from Columbia University, NYC, then settling permanently in London via Paris. Timothy married artist, Sophie Crockett, and has two children. He was a guest tutor at St Martin's School of Art 1992-1993 and a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art 2002 and had a studio in the tiny Montagne Noir hamlet of La Galaube in France where he spent extended periods between 2000 and 2015. Artist in Residence annually 2000-2004 at the Centre de Sculpture in Montolieu, during the 2004 residency, Shepard completed and installed an award commission via the Sculpture Center as part of a pilot scheme from the French Ministry of Culture inviting artists to create works out of various historic monuments. He had solo shows at Grosvenor Street Art Space, London; The Dairy Arts Center, Boulder, Colorado; the National Centre for Atmospheric Research, Boulder Colorado and at Aldeburgh Beach Lookout, Suffolk in 2014 & 2021 where he was Artist in Residence. He has also exhibited with Zeitgeist Arts Projects; Charlie Dutton Gallery; Caroline Wiseman Modern and Contemporary; London Art Fair; British Art Fair, Standpoint Gallery and Collier Bristow Gallery London. His work is in private collections in the USA, UK, Japan, France, and Germany. Shepard has created a number of album covers, including Paul Weller 22 Dreams, and Kevin Ayers, The Unfairground. Shepard was awarded the inaugural Francis Carnwath Prize for the Arts in 2021. He lives in Notting Hill, London with his 12-year-old daughter, Willow.
