Hilary Barry

Hilary Barry originally came from Brynmawr in South Wales. Hilary took a foundation course at Bournville School of Art, Birmingham and studied Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art, London taking her B.A., and her M.A. Fine Art at Middlesex and continued for a University Teaching degree from Roehampton University and has had over twenty years teaching experience, becoming a professional artist in 2005. In September 2016, Hilary moved from London to Kessingland, Lowestoft, Suffolk. Her work in London was based on her memories of a land of mountains, mist, and rain of the Wales of her youth and she is now discovering the atmosphere and sense of place in Suffolk. Hilary works with oil on canvas, and photographs, draws and research before picking up a paintbrush, relying on visual memory and imagination. Her paintings often take months, as she works with layers of glazes and experiments with different textured surfaces and detail is jettisoned in favour of contemplation of the inner life and meaning of the Suffolk landscape. Hilary is a member of Easterly Artists and has had solo exhibitions at London Psychotherapy Centre; Tavistock Centre, 120 Belsize Lane, London; Cloisters, Pump Court, Inner Temple, London; Pittstudio & Gallery, Worcester and many mixed shows including The Cut Halesworth, Suffolk; Boundary Art, Cardiff; Espacio Gallery, London; Cork Street Open, Cork Street, London; Cultivate Gallery, Vyner Street, London and elsewhere. A full member of Suffolk Open Studios with her studio at Copperfields, Beach Road, Kessingland.
