CHOLMELEY, Blanche Emily Roberta
Blanche Emily Roberta Darling was born at Eyke, Suffolk on 4 January 1861, eldest daughter and fourth child of the seven children of Revd James George Darling (c1824-5 May 1891), rector of Eyke from 1856, and his second wife Mary Emily Darling née Johnson, who married at Trinity Church, Chester, on 2 December 1854, his first wife was Louisa Susanna née Molyneux (1834-17 August 1853) who died without issue. In 1883, as Miss B. Darling, she exhibited at the Woodbridge Industrial & Art Exhibition at the Lecture Hall, Woodbridge, a watercolour 'Basket, Jar, Apples and Cocoa Nut'. Blanche married at Eyke on 1 August 1888, Robert Francis Cholmeley (1862-31 December 1947), O.B.E., a school headmaster and an author, and their son was Lt. Hugh Ralph, born 24 April 1891, who was killed in action on 14 June 1915, aged 24. As Blanche Cholmeley, she exhibited from The Cottage, Blaxhall at the Ipswich Art Club in 1933, a watercolour 'Cottage Flowers' and in 1935 an oil 'The Yellow Mug'. Blanche Emily Roberta Cholmeley died at Mill Cottage, Blaxhall, Suffolk on 2 April 1948, aged 87.
