DARLING, Ruth Emma
Ruth Emma Darling was born at Eyke, Suffolk on 31 January 1864, daughter of Revd James George Darling (18 October 1825-5 May 1891), rector of Eyke, of Revd James George Darling (18 October 1825-5 May 1891), rector of Eyke from 1856, and his second wife Mary Emily Darling née Johnson, who married at Trinity Church, Chester, on 2 December 1854, James Darling married his first wife in 1851, Louisa Susanna Burnett (1818-17 August 1853) ) who died without issue. Ruth, who was a sister to Blanche Emily Roberta Cholmeley, in 1883 as Miss E. Darling of Eyke, she exhibited at the Woodbridge Art Exhibition at the Lecture Hall, Woodbridge, Suffolk, four watercolours, 'An Old Man's Head', 'Flower (Iris)', 'Child's Head', a 'Landscape' and in sepia 'Chestnut Leaves', she also exhibited at the 1887 exhibition two oil paintings, two crayon drawings, two terra cotta plates and an oil painting 'Boy's Head' which won the Third Prize and in 1889, when held at the Assembly Room at the Bull Hotel, Woodbridge she had on show several oil paintings. Ruth married at All Saints' Church, Eyke on 21 April 1896, Edmund Henry Lacon Watson (15 August 1865-9 March 1948), an author, journalist, and a member of the stock exchange, and in 1939, they were living at 19 Scarsdale Villas, Kensington, London W.8. Ruth Emma Watson died at 19 Scarsdale Villas, Kensington on 14 June 1960, aged 96.
