DARLING, Mary Emily

1825 - 1913

As Mary Emily Johnson, she was born at Chester, Cheshire on 3 April 1825, and baptised at Crook Street, Presbyterian Church, Chester on 28 April 1826, daughter of James Johnson and his wife Margaret. Mary married, as his second wife, at Trinity Church, Chester, on 2 December 1854, Revd James George Darling (18 October 1825-5 May 1891), rector of Eyke, Suffolk. James's first wife was Louisa Susanna Molyneux who died on 17 August 1853, without issue. As Mrs Darling of Eyke, in 1883 she exhibited at the Woodbridge Industrial & Art Exhibition at the Lecture Hall Woodbridge, two portraits in crayon and eight specimens of penmanship 'Heads and Writing'. After the death of her husband in 1891, the Revd Theodore Calliphronas (1846-1921) was instituted to Eyke rectory but on 16 December 1893, Mary Darling's son, the Revd James George Reginald Darling (31 October 1867-24 July 1938), on the presentation of Emily, was instituted to the Rectory of Eyke. Mary Emily Darling continued to live at Eyke until her death on 3 July 1913, aged 87.
