TOWNSHEND, Anne
As Anne M. Harding, she was born at Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex in 1951, eldest child of Graham John Harding and his wife Mary Harding. Anne married at Ipswich in 1974, Digby Roy Townshend (born October 1947), and works under the name of Anne Townshend. Using watercolour has always been a pleasurable challenge and, over the years, Anne has attended various workshops and courses which encouraged her to combine this with charcoal and other mediums, particularly when working with landscapes. The gentle curves of the Suffolk countryside combined with its man-made marks fascinates Anne and having explored and experimented with various printmaking techniques, she found linocut, with its clean illustrative lines, to be the most satisfying medium through which to express her images. More recently her subjects include Suffolk’s varied birdlife and coastal scenes. Anne is a member of 4PRINTmakers and has exhibited at Stoke by Nayland Church; Gainsborough's House Museum and Gallery, Sudbury; Mill Tye Gallery, Sudbury; Snape Maltings Galleries and elsewhere. A member of Suffolk Open Studios from 18 Goodlands, Boxford and is also open by appointment.
