BRUCE, Susan

Susan B. Bruce, was born in Coventry in 1954. Susan trained, initially as a ceramist, but also in printmaking at Cheltenham and later at Lowestoft College of Arts and has attended a number of printmaking workshops to learn the new printing techniques. She taught art in schools and colleges for many years and is a printmaker and a member of the Suffolk Craft Society both as a printmaker and as a ceramic artist, she is also a member of the Gainsborough House print workshop in Sudbury and a professional member of the Craft Potters' Association. Her current prints are collographs with collage, with the river Deben estuary near her home a great influence on her work, with the ever changing river and the colour and the light and aims for subtle colour combinations to reflect the mood and atmosphere. Susan's has a series of prints which are based on drawings based on Levens Hall topiary garden in Cumbria with the almost geometric shapes inspired semi-abstract compositions, with layers of rich surface pattern. She has exhibited widely including The Lion House Gallery Lavenham; Snape Maltings Gallery; Peter Piers Gallery Aldeburgh; Rougham Barns, Suffolk; Edmund Gallery Bury St. Edmunds and SCS Gallery 2, Ipswich. The author of ‘The Art of Handbuilt Ceramics’ (2000) and has her studio at 4 Pinewood, Woodbridge, Suffolk.
