FRANCIS, Chris Noel
Christopher Noel S. Francis was born at Gipping, Suffolk in 1941, his mother's maiden name was Robinson, and he grew up in Dedham, Essex. After completing a 2-year course in photography at Regent Street Polytechnic in London, he spent his career working with some of the most important photographers in London. The best-known studio was that of John Vickers (1916-1976), the official photographer of the Old Vic Theatre, also working on fashion and advertising photography until moving back to Suffolk. Christopher married at Chelsea in 1965, Janice M. Thompson. In 1997, when illness forced him to retire from his career in theatre photography and as a designer, he took up painting seriously. Chris Noel Francis creates very lively and quirky local landscapes and scenes in watercolour and oils with an emphasis on catching the mood and feel of his subjects which can be anything that catches his eye, ranging from a well-known local view to a moment or scene to which we can all relate. He exhibits at Art on the Prom at Felixstowe, Suffolk and is a member of Orwell Art Club and the Humber Doucy Art Group, tutored by Ken Cuthbert and is also a member of the Ipswich Art Society from 14 Rosehill Road, Ipswich.
