BERWICK, Lyn

1952 - ?

As Linda A. Button, she was born at Hackney, London in 1952. She married at Islington, London in 1995, Brian C. Berwick (1947-) and paints under the name of Lyn Berwick. Taking early retirement Lyn returned to study at the Hampstead School of Art studying mosaic, abstract painting and sculpture and has been a professional artist since 1998. Lyn paints in all medias, using oils or acrylics depending on what she is working and combines techniques in unusual ways, routinely ignoring accepted rules. She will combine printing, painting, and collage, to pronounced effect and her subject matter is eclectic, tackling still life to abstract and representational subjects. Lyn prefers the viscosity method of collagraph printing, when intaglio ink is rubbed in first in diverse colours, followed by a hard roller in another colour and finally a soft roller in yet another colour with the two final rolling's made with different measures of oil and ink, enabling them to print over each other without removing the ink beneath. Before leaving London, Lyn had her first exhibition at the Sheridan Gallery and since then has exhibited in Suffolk and Norfolk including at Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham; Buckenham Galleries, Southwold; Aldeburgh Gallery; Wingfield Barns; The Crooked House, Lavenham; Pond Gallery at Snape Maltings; Harleston Gallery; Beyond the Image Gallery and elsewhere. Her studio was at Rose Villa, Church Street, Stradbroke, Eye, Suffolk and after moving to Cambridge she became a member of Open Studios and Ovenden Contemporary Art with arranged exhibitions and attended a long-running printing course at Curwen Print. Lyn then moved to Brighton and joined bip-Art Printmaking Workshop, exhibiting at the Battersea Arts Fair and now lives in Hove, Sussex.
