FOSTER, Judith
Judith Foster was born at Edmonton, London on 19 October 1937, daughter of George Albert Victor Foster (21 January 1901-5 September 1990), a school master, and his wife Joyce née Esam (8 August 1903-13 December 1989), who married at Wisbech Congregational Church, Cambridgeshire on 1 January 1930. Judith was educated at Bath High School and in 1955, came to study at the Ipswich School of Art from where in 1959, she gained entrance to the Royal College of Art. Judith graduated in 1962, being awarded an Abbey Minor Travelling scholarship that took her to Rome, and she visited many of the principal European art galleries. Judith married at Norton Radstock, near Bath in 1962, artist Richard Pinkney and they had two sons, but she continues to work as Judith Foster and was a member of the Six in Suffolk Group. Together with her husband, established the Peppermint Shed Gallery at 6 Lower Street, Sproughton, near Ipswich which has shown several artists connected with the Ipswich School of Art. An active, and now a Life Member of the Ipswich Art Society, where she exhibits regularly from Oak Cottage, 10 The Street, Bramford, Ipswich, including in 1990, two works 'Cherry Bowl' and 'Pears on a Table', in 1997 three works 'Cooking Apples', 'Fruitscape' and 'Tulips' and from the same address in 2006 'Blue Eggs' and 'Old Cotswold Legbor Eggs'. Over the years she has taught at the Ipswich School of Art and the Suffolk College, Art Department. Judith has run leisure and master classes in her own studio and conducted several summer schools and is a member of the Suffolk Group of Artists with other mixed shows at Young Contemporaries; Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol; Drawings for All at Gainsborough's House Gallery, Sudbury. Judith has exhibited at the Royal Academy and has also had solo shows at Manor School of Ballet, Edinburgh: Cleveland Bridge Gallery, Bath and John Russell Gallery, Ipswich. Her work is represented in private and public collections in Europe, the USA, and the UK.
