HARRIS, Lindsay
Lindsay A. Harris was born at Torquay, Devon in 1948. She studied at Chelsea School of Art 1973-1976 and at Garnett College of Education 1978-1979 gaining a Certificate of Education. Lindsay then taught visual and 3D studies at various art schools, culminating in ten years at Suffolk College and fifteen at University Campus Suffolk, now the University of Suffolk at Ipswich. Her early work was 3D and concerned with geometric form and the effects of light, using cast polyester resin, sheet materials including card, wood, metals and plastics, and plaster. Lindsay married at Stepney, London in 1982, Esmond Bingham and, on moving to Suffolk in 1984, with a family and a lack of working space, for many years focused on 2D works on paper, atmospheric tonal renditions of unpeopled, often abandoned interiors such as psychiatric hospitals, before returning to 3D and fresh approaches to drawing. Since 1994, a member and regular exhibitor with the Suffolk Group of Artists, Chair 1999-2007 and secretary since 2007 also a member and exhibitor at the Ipswich Art Society, and has exhibited throughout Suffolk and occasionally abroad, including several joint exhibitions with her husband.
