DENNES, Noel Frank Bevan
Noel Frank Bevan Dennes was born at 25 Beresford Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk on 25 December 1908, son of Francis Bell Dennes (11 January 1878-1958), a shop-keeper in wallpaper & toys and a congregational minister, and his wife Lily Elizabeth née Randall (10 May 1882-1944), eldest daughter of Arthur Randall of Newmarket Road, Norwich, who married at the Baptist Church, London Road, Lowestoft on 4 July 1907 and in 1939, were living at The Morse, Mill Road, Mattishall, Norfolk when Noel was an unmarried local government officer. Noel was educated at Hitchin Grammar School and at Bracondale School, Norwich and studied part-time at Norwich School of Art and privately under landscape painter Ernest Herbert Whydale (1886-1952). He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists; the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours; the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and had several exhibitions in the provinces and solo shows at Norwich. A printmaker and a painter of East Anglian landscapes working in oil, watercolour and tempera and a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1933-1982 from Mattishall, Norwich, Costessey and Brundall, all in Norfolk and served as chairman and vice-president of the Norwich Art Circle. His egg tempera painting 'Morning Haze, West Somerton' was loaned to the Norfolk & Norwich centenary exhibition in 1985. Noel Frank Bevan Dennes died at St David's Nursing Home, Sheringham, Norfolk in 1988, he was unmarried.
