Christine Frances Stephenson

As Christine Frances Revill, she was born at Winchester, Hampshire on 3 April 1937, second daughter of Francis John Revill (1 February 1899-1978) and his wife Marjorie Crossman, second daughter of Augustus D. Crossman of Comeytrowe, Taunton, who married at Temple Wesleyan Church, Taunton on 30 July 1924. Christine was educated at St Swithin's School, Winchester and studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art 1953-1958, graduating with a National Diploma in Art & Design in 1957 and an art Teacher's Diploma the following year. Obtaining a Goldsmiths College Post Graduate Certificate from the University of London in 1984 and in 2001 obtained her History Diploma from the University of East Anglia. Christine married in Waveney district of Suffolk in 2000, artist Jack Stephenson and has two sons. She paints botanically accurate and minutely detailed plant portraits in watercolour, the paintings are concerned with texture, richness of colour and dramatic tone, always on a white paper, her works are signed C.F.S. Elected a member of the Society of Botanical Artists in 1997, she has exhibited at Capel Manor Gallery, Enfield; Thompson's Gallery, Aldeburgh; Royal Horticultural Society, London; Society of Botanical Artists, London; Suffolk Open Studios; Lucy B. Campbell Gallery, Kensington; Gordon Craig Gallery, Knightsbridge; Chelsea Flower Show, London; The Hunt Institute of Botanical Documentation, Pittsburg, USA., Hintlesham Hall, Suffolk and elsewhere. Her work is represented in the international archive of Botanical Art and Illustration, at the Hunt Institute, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Christine lives with her husband at 3 Causeway Cottages, Middleton, Saxmundham, Suffolk with a studio in adjoining village of Theberton.
