Helen Atkinson Wood

Helen Atkinson-Wood was born at Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire on 14 March 1955 and has been married to the English writer and director John Morton since 1997. Helen studied fine art at the Ruskin School of Art at Oxford University, where she performed alongside Rowan Atkinson and took part in Oxford University Drama Society productions. She later appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where she met Ben Elton. The stage and screen actress and comedian, known for KYTV (1989), Flushed Away (2006) and The Young Ones (1982), but is probably best known for her portrayal of Mrs Miggins in Blackadder The Third. Now dividing her times between her homes in London and Blythburgh in Suffolk, she saw her passion for art resurface after she took part in Celebrity Watercolour Challenge, which she went on to win and is currently seeing her work celebrated in a completely different way with six of her local watercolour scenes taking up residency in Southwold Gallery. She is a member of the Walberswick Open Studios and exhibits with Aldeburgh Beach Lookout Arts Club and has also shown at Peggy Jay Gallery, Burgh House, Hampstead and elsewhere.
