David Williams, after completing an Art Foundation Course at Derby School of Art, now the University of Derby in 1968, has been painting, illustrating and designing and then completed a Fine Art degree at Newcastle University. Williams paints mostly oil on canvas but also sketching and using watercolours and while fascinated by all kinds of art past and present, his main focus is working in a loose, realistic style on a variety of subject matter. As well as creating paintings for exhibition and private commission, his artwork has been used by many card and book publishers including 'Card Connection', 'Jarrold Publishing', 'Camden Graphics', 'Hallmark', 'Simon Elvin', 'Oxford University Press' and 'Cambridge University Press', 'Ginn and Company', 'House Beautiful', 'Good Housekeeping' and 'The Spectator'. Commissions have included paintings and illustrations for design and advertising agencies including projects for 'Boots', 'The Port of Dover,' 'Manchester Airport', 'Manweb', 'The National Trust', 'The AA' and 'The Royal International Pavilion, Llangollen'. He exhibited locally at Hadleigh Gallery; Aldeburgh Gallery and elsewhere from his studio home in Suffolk.
